This isn't just about the Fuerte avocado. This is about history...and dinner! Read more... Earlier this week, I found these Fuerte Avocados at my favorite neighborhood market. I've been a fan of the Haas variety for a long time, but this was my first taste of the Fuerte...and my oh my. The texture is creamy just like the Haas, but with a nutty flavor so it's a great accompaniment to leafy greens, grains or dressing you'll make during the winter months...especially the recipe that follows. I learned that December and March is this avocado's natural season but unfortunately, if you [...]

These cabbage nori rolls are my raw food twist on the traditional sushi roll. Filled with fresh, raw veggies and a parsnip sun-dried tomato paté, then wrapped in nori and cabbage you'll want to make a few more for later. They are a great addition to any dinner party, or make a great appetizer to the rest of your "Asian" themed dinner. This recipe makes 6-8 rolls. Ideally, you'll need a vegetable peeler, a food processor, a small pot (for wilting the cabbage), a cutting board and a sharp knife. You can make them in less than 15 minutes (minus [...]

If you like to "do-it-yourself" and you like cabbage, then you'll love this DIY raw sauerkraut recipe. A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about pooping, probiotics and the importance of having a healthy gut, so instead of just talking the talk, I figured I'd take you on the walk with me. I think fermented foods are amazing and can be easily integrated into a daily meal plan. These days, probiotics come in various forms, including shelf stable probiotics, but there are also fresh probiotics including fermented milk products (yogurt, kefir, lassi) and fermented tea (kombucha), but I especially [...]

Makes 2 - 3 cups. Make sure to use organic ingredients, because you don't want any toxic chemicals and pesticides in your "hummus". Oh, and leave the skins on the zucchini, that's where the fiber and phytonutrients live and you definitely want those nutrients inside...not in the compost! 2 C zucchini squash, large chop 1/2 C sprouted sunflower seeds 1 clove garlic, large chop 2 T extra virgin olive oil (first cold pressed) 1 organic lemon juice (fresh squeezed) 2 tsp mineral salt filtered water to create desired consistency 2 T Cured black olives (in oil), chopped DIRECTIONS Place all [...]
